ISAM – International Affiliate Association
The International Society of Addiction Medicine, ISAM, is an international fellowship of physicians founded in 1998 and committed to the advancement of knowledge about Addiction Medicine through the:
- Recognition of physicians worldwide who have a major role to play in its management
- Enhancement of the credibility of the physician’s role
- Emphasis of the importance of educational activities
ISAM’s History
Born out of the recognition that addiction related issues are associated with complex and multiple morbidities regardless pf race, gender and/or ethnicity and that its prevalence is global in nature, a nee was identified for an International network of Clinicians in the field of addiction medicine. The International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) had its inaugural meeting in 1999 in Palm Springs, USA.
Since then, ISAM had its annual meeting in 18 different countries in an effort to make its meeting accessible to neighbouring countries around the world.
As an International fellowship organization of clinicians, ISAM provides a membership-based forum for clinicians worldwide.
The educational mandate of the Society is to promote the exchange of information and ideas about pharmacological and non- pharmacological addiction research, treatment and management.
